An Innovative Collaborative

Join a group of innovative collaborators.

Purpose

The purpose of this web site is to build an active group of people who collaborate to develop better insights, or foresight, into the future, understand and advance intelligence systems, and improve the innovative capacity of organizations. The group will be using web 2.0 software while at the same time advancing understanding of the capabilities of that software.

Join the Collaborative

To join this collaborative, just click on the Join link in the upper right hand corner of the web site, or send an e-mail to Paul Schumann requesting an invitation, or an IM to innovant2003 at Yahoo.

Why did I begin working with innovation systems?

In Complexity: A Guided Tour, Melanie Mitchell wrote about a series of questions that were being circulated among complexity scientists. I liked the questions very much and thought that they also applied to work on innovation systems. So, I’ve modified them for that application:

1. Why did you begin working with innovation systems?
2. How would you define an innovation system?
3. What is your favorite aspect /concept of innovation systems?
4. In your opinion, what is the most prob… Continue

Philosophy of Interdisciplinarity

International Workshop, September 28-29, 2009

Since the early 1970s, “interdisciplinarity” has become a
popular label ascribed to innumerable research programs.
Interdisciplinarity is driven by expected benefits of solving
problems collaboratively across the boundaries of traditional
disciplines and, from a different perspective, by ethical
and societal problems at the intersection of science,
technology and society. These problems led to the establishment
of technology assessment, globa… Continue

Colaboration

Collaboration is a recursive process where two or more people or organizations work together toward an intersection of common goals — for example, an intellectual endeavor that is creative in nature—by sharing knowledge, learning and building consensus. Collaboration does not require leadership and can sometimes bring better results through decentralization and egalitarianism. In particular, teams that work collaboratively can obtain greater resources, recognition and reward when facing competition for finite resources.

Structured methods of collaboration encourage introspection of behavior and communication. These methods specifically aim to increase the success of teams as they engage in collaborative problem solving. Forms, rubrics, charts and graphs are useful in these situations to objectively document personal traits with the goal of improving performance in current and future projects.

Widgets, Folksonomies, Mashups and Syndication: What do these terms mean and are they important to me? Find out what web 2.0 is about and how serious the movement is in Paul's interesting and informative discussion. If you miss this set of disruptive innovations, it's going to be difficult to catch up.

Market Intelligence:
If the future is coming at us faster, how do you keep up? It's really very simple. You listen in. Jim Carroll writes in Ready, Set, Done, "The globe has become one massive idea generation machine, with new ideas being created instantly everywhere, on a continuous non-stop basis." Wouldn't you like a low cost listening device that's tuned to all the ideas being generated on the web that are related to your market for your team? And, wouldn't it be great if this same system engaged your team in knowing and creating even more? Get GVI's Market Intelligence System.

Foresight in the Time of Simplicity, Complexity and Chaos:
What does foresight mean in today's environment? How do manage differently if the environment is simple, complex or chaotic? These and other questions will be answered by Paul Schumann's provocative discussion.

Delighting Customers:
Would you rather be satisfied or delighted? Which do you think your customers would prefer? Chances are that you answered "Delighted" in both cases.Learn how to delight your customers through education and consulting by Paul Schumann.
